The rotary drum granulator is one of the key machines in the compound fertilizer industry. Its parameters significantly affect the quality of fertilizer particles. Here are the main parameters and their impacts:
1. Drum Rotation Speed
The rotation speed directly influences how often materials tumble and their movement path inside the drum. At a moderate speed, materials mix and roll thoroughly, allowing particles to grow evenly. If the speed is too slow, materials won’t tumble enough, leading to uneven particle sizes (such as large and small particles mixed together). If the speed is too fast, excessive tumbling can break formed particles, making it hard to produce stable, rounded granules.

2. Drum Tilt Angle
The tilt angle of the rotary drum granulator controls how the material moves within the drum. A small tilt angle keeps materials inside longer, which may cause over-granulation or clumping. A large tilt angle makes materials pass through too quickly, resulting in loose, weak particles that break easily during handling or use.
3. Filling Rate
The filling rate affects particle formation quality. A high filling rate squeezes materials too tightly, blocking airflow and hindering moisture evaporation or chemical reactions. This can create uneven internal structures. A low filling rate reduces collisions and bonding between materials, making it harder to form well-shaped particles.
These parameters of the rotary drum granulator are interrelated and influence each other. In the fertilizer production process, only by accurately controlling these parameters can fertilizer particles with uniform size, appropriate compactness and excellent quality be produced to meet the demand for high-quality fertilizers in agricultural production.
